The INC-led central government in India scrutinized the BMGF in 2013 for ethical breaches in clinical trials. The Parliamentary Standing Committee found the BMGF-funded PATH guilty of violating regulatory standards in HPV vaccine trials where seven children died. Despite restrictions, the BMGF continued to work with India’s Health Ministry through ITSU.
When Gates traveled to India in November 2019, he had a meeting with Modi and various government officials. This event also signified the return of the BMGF to India’s Health Ministry, as the Modi government approved a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the Department of Health & Family Welfare (DOHFW), the government of India, and the BMGF for collaboration in the health sector. Rajnath Singh, who was the Home Minister of India at that time and a key member of Modi’s cabinet, had previously encouraged Gates to adopt 1,000 villages in central India affected by left-wing extremism during a meeting in New Delhi back in 2017.

Odisha govt, Bharat Biotech to set up vaccine manufacturing unit in Bhubaneswar
Commercial production at the Sapigen Biologix vaccine plant in Odisha, the first such facility in the state, will commence by May this year, officials said on Sunday.
The plant at the Biotech Park in Andharua near here will have a capacity to produce 2.4 crore doses of different vaccines per day, they said.
“At full capacity, this facility will be the biggest vaccine-producing plant in the country,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement.
It is expected to produce over 15 vaccines for various diseases, including cholera and malaria.
The Rs 1,500-crore vaccine plant will create direct employment for 1,500 people, with most of them being local recruits, the CMO said.

The variety of vaccines produced in Bhubaneswar will be supplied to many parts of the world, it added.
V K Pandian, the chairman of ‘5T’ – technology-led transformative initiatives – on Sunday visited the sub-units and interacted with the management and employees. He urged all government agencies to assist in the commissioning of the plant within the next three months.
