The temporary nation wide restrictions placed on Telegram before the NEET-UG re- examination are officially over now , still confusion and connection troubles keep showing up for users across India. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had asked Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and application stores to limit access to Telegram from June 16 through June 22, as a way to stop exam related misconduct , like question paper leaks and well organized cheating rings. These limitations were meant to be short lived and they were set to wrap up automatically after the examination window ended.
Yet, even with the official order expiring, many users are reporting that Telegram remains inaccessible or unstable. On social media, complaints keep popping up, users mention the messaging service can’t connect on multiple networks and in some cases, they can’t actually get messages, or they simply can’t open channels and groups.
And to make everything more confusing, Telegram also stays unavailable for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store here in India. For new users trying to install it, there’s no clear, official note explaining why it’s missing, so people are left wondering if there are extra restrictions still in place or something similar.
Because authorities have not shared a straightforward update, doubts are growing among users and digital rights advocates. Critics say the government hasn’t offered enough transparency on what’s happening right now with Telegram’s access, and it has not made clear whether any leftover limitations, remain in effect or were fully lifted.
Some observers point out that if big scale digital limits touch millions of users, then the kind of disclosure that goes to the Delhi High Court, and yes, to the public as well, should be obvious and complete. They argue transparency is required for accountability and also to avoid that lingering uncertainty for companies, students, journalists, and ordinary citizens who end up using digital communication services day to day.
Many simply want a straightforward answer: Is Telegram fully accessible again, or do some restrictions remain in place?
