HYDERABAD: The farmers of Ranga reddy district, whose ancestral agricultural lands were seized for the proposed Pharma City project, are standing united to expose a profound breach of trust by the current ruling Congress government.

Before the general elections, the Congress party stood alongside our community, pledging unwavering support. Our farmers believed in their promise, viewing them as allies. However, since gaining power, the very party we helped elect has turned against us. This is not just a political shift; it is a betrayal akin to “Kattappa killing Baahubali.”
We are now taking our fight directly to the public, starting with the Jubilee Hills bypoll, to ensure our voices reach the highest levels of power and demand the justice we were promised.
The Broken Manifesto: A Clear Breach of Trust
The Congress party campaigned on clear, written promises that directly addressed the plight of the Pharma City affected farmers. They have since completely failed to deliver.
The Election Promise (2023 Manifesto):
- Cancellation of Pharma City: A binding promise to scrap the controversial Pharma City project permanently.
- Land Protection: Vowing to safeguard farmers’ lands by granting full land rights.
- Record Updates: Commitment to updating and digitizing land records online for affected areas.
“The Congress, which in its 2023 election manifesto promised to cancel Pharma City and protect farmers’ lands… has completely failed to do so.”
The Pharma City proposal, initially put forth by the previous BRS government in 2016, put pressure on nearly 13,000 acres of prime agricultural land across three mandals in Rangareddy district, affecting approximately 800 families. Farmers supported the Congress on the condition of reversal; their failure to act is a direct abandonment of our livelihoods.
Determined to hold the government accountable, the Movement Against Pharma City is escalating its awareness campaign. Farmers are committed to exposing this blatant betrayal to the wider public and mobilizing support.
- Jubilee Hills By-Election: Farmers are actively campaigning in Jubilee Hills, utilizing public discussions, door-to-door outreach, and social media platforms to ensure voters understand the reality of the broken promises made to the farming community.
- Appeal to Central Leadership: Farmer’s primary objective is to make our struggle visible to Shri Rahul Gandhi, expressing our hope that he will intervene personally to deliver justice and honor the party’s original commitments.
- Grassroots Awareness: Farmers will continue to use digital and public forums to spread awareness about the devastating consequences of industrial acquisition on agricultural lands and the cynical use of farmers for political gain.
In a clear demonstration of resistance to farmer’s movement, they allege that the Congress government actively obstructed our democratic right to participate in the Jubilee Hills by-election.
- Farmers from the affected areas attempted to file 10 nominations for the bypoll to highlight our cause on a legislative platform.
- All ten nominations were subsequently rejected/disqualified.
- Andekar Devoji, a resident of Yacharam, reported systematic obstacles, including repeated denial of certified electoral rolls by the Ibrahimpatnam RDO, and claims that officials falsely reported providing the documents.
Farmer’s Allegation: Our nominations were intentionally rejected to prevent our movement from gaining a legitimate electoral platform. They created several obstacles from the beginning to stop us from contesting.
