The by-election for the Nandigram seat in West Bengal is scheduled for October 6th. However, a political war of accusations and counter-accusations continues. Ahead of the by-election, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has targeted Mamata Banerjee. He claimed that five years ago, during the Bengal Assembly election campaign in Nandigram, East Medinipur, Mamata Banerjee falsely reported a leg injury. He also presented hospital documents as evidence.
Chief Minister Suvendu said that the state government will launch an investigation into Mamata Banerjee’s “false propaganda.” He also stated that further action in this matter will be announced after the by-election is over.
Adhikari first discussed this matter while campaigning in Nandigram on Friday. The following day, he held an official press conference at the state secretariat in Nabanna. Citing the SSKM Hospital report dated March 11, 2021, the Chief Minister alleged that Mamata Banerjee lied about her injuries during the 2020 elections.
During the press conference, Chief Minister Suvendu presented a document from the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences. He stated that the incident had insulted the people of Nandigram. Take a look at the document: “No evidence of a fracture or dislocation.”
The Chief Minister also hinted at a CID investigation against former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. He stated that the CID investigation would continue after the election code of conduct ends. If any incident occurs, the police or the CID can investigate. However, if anyone runs a fake campaign, insults the people of Nandigram, conducts a media trial, and misleads the people of Bengal, action will be taken against them under the BNS.
Before the 2021 assembly elections, Mamata Banerjee suffered a sudden fracture in her leg. This left her confined to a wheelchair until the end of the election. Her fracture is believed to have helped her party garner massive sympathy from voters across the state. Even when the BJP used all its might against the TMC, Mamata Banerjee won Bengal with a landslide victory in the Nandigram elections.
