Patna, April 20.
With the aim of promoting the overall development of the sugarcane sector, increasing farmers’ income, improving sugarcane production and productivity, and establishing better coordination with the sugar industry, a Sugarcane Advisory Committee was formed on Monday under the chairmanship of Sugarcane Commissioner, Mr. Anil Kumar Jha.
This committee includes the Director of the Sugarcane Research Institute, Pusa, the Director of the Sugarcane Breeding Institute, Coimbatore, as members, the Joint Director/Deputy Director of Sugarcane Development as Member Secretary, the General Managers of all sugar mills operating in the state, all Assistant Directors of Sugarcane Development, one farmer from each sugar mill area nominated by the Sugarcane Commissioner, and a maximum of five farmers from non-sugar mill areas nominated by the Sugarcane Commissioner.
According to the Sugarcane Industry Department, this committee will provide advice on formulating, monitoring, improving quality of sugarcane development plans, and will also provide suggestions on new schemes and innovative components. In addition, it will provide advice on any other topics necessary for sugarcane development, sugarcane farmers, and sugarcane-based industries in the state. It is reported that other departments and experts may be included in this committee as needed.
