Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made a highly controversial statement in Patna. He made derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father. Kharge’s speech caused a lot of commotion and a scuffle ensued. However, the Congress President did not stop, instead continuing to speak.

At an event organized to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Dr. Shri Krishna Singh in Patna, Bihar, a commotion erupted during Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge’s address. He continued to speak against PM Modi. A person present there said that PM Modi will not go anywhere, to which Kharge replied that Modi’s father will also go. “Come on, Modi has a habit of lying,” Kharge replied. Congress workers were seen beating the person.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday described the protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list as the second war of independence. He demanded an immediate halt to this process, the use of ballot papers in all future elections, and the cancellation of all assembly elections held in the last two years. Speaking at an event to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Krishna Singh, also known as “Shri Babu,” Kharge alleged that the ideology of the RSS and the BJP was deepening divisions in the country.

Kharge claimed that until the RSS ideology was eradicated, there would be no peace in the country. Alleging manipulation of voter lists and the removal of names of opposition supporters, Kharge questioned the electoral process and the impartiality of the Election Commission. He said that governments in West Bengal, Haryana, Bihar, and Maharashtra that were captured through “vote theft” should be removed. He also appealed to the people to take to the streets, fight for their rights, and protect the Constitution.
Kharge demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing SIR process and the cancellation of all assembly elections held in the last two years. He said the public deserves transparency and accountability from the Election Commission. Furthermore, to ensure transparency and restore public confidence, he said elections should be conducted through ballot papers. Democracy must be protected and every vote counted. Accusing the BJP of engaging in divisive politics, Kharge called for unity, saying it was crucial to protect the country’s social harmony. He said, “We are patriots who believe in unity, equality, and the Constitution—not in dividing our people for political gain like BJP leaders.”

Paying tribute to Krishna Singh, Kharge said Bihar’s first Chief Minister helped lay the foundation of a modern state by building numerous institutions and promoting agriculture, industry, education, and irrigation. Taking aim at JD(U) President Nitish Kumar, Kharge said the former Chief Minister once stood with socialist leaders like Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan, but today he has aligned himself with the BJP. There is a stark contrast between the socialist ideals and political values he once associated with and the political alliance he now belongs to. What a stark and shocking shift from the legacy of socialist politics to the BJP’s embrace!

Kharge demanded action against those who promote untouchability and those involved in practices like “purification.” He stressed that caste-based discrimination and the isolation of people undermine human dignity and equality. He said, “Our fight is not against religion; it is against discrimination in the name of religion. I am proud of my faith—my name itself is inspired by one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Faith should unite people, not divide them.” The Congress president said that Dalits should have the right to enter and worship in every temple in the country without any discrimination. He also criticized the FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi had gone to Haldwani, where an alleged ‘purification’ incident took place targeting him. Kharge said that this raises the question as to how much space is left in the society for those who challenge the existing system (status). Targeting the BJP over the controversy over donations given for the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Kharge said, “I pray to Lord Ram to open his eyes and punish those who have looted money in his name.”
