The Amarnath Yatra 2026 is set to begin in July. Ahead of this, significant news has emerged. Health insurance for every devotee of Lord Shiva has been doubled during the 2026 Amarnath Yatra. Thousands of health officials have been deployed to facilitate healthcare for every pilgrim embarking on this year’s Amarnath Yatra.
It is worth noting that preparations for the Amarnath Yatra are nearly complete. Following the completion of snow removal in Kashmir, both routes leading to the holy cave have been opened. Strict security arrangements have been made at both routes, the base camp, and the transit camp.

In addition to providing adequate security to pilgrims, a major challenge for authorities this year is the volatile weather in Kashmir, especially in the mountainous regions, which are prone to hailstorms and rain. To keep pilgrims safe and healthy, authorities have placed a significant emphasis on their health care.
Health insurance for each registered pilgrim has been increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, and will be available without any premium. Authorities have simplified access to health care for all pilgrims traveling on this year’s pilgrimage. The civil administration in the Kashmir Valley has made significant efforts to ensure that pilgrims can perform the annual pilgrimage in comfort and safety.
This year’s major initiative is expanding insurance coverage for pilgrims. Authorities have increased the life insurance cover for Amarnath pilgrims from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, providing greater financial security to devotees undertaking the holy pilgrimage.
In addition to the increased insurance cover, free medical services will be available to all pilgrims throughout the yatra. Two 100-bed hospitals have been built on both routes to provide immediate medical assistance if needed, and 4×4 ambulances will also be available for pilgrims 24 hours a day.
Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg stated that all pilgrims are being provided health insurance. Every pilgrim with an RFID card will automatically benefit from the insurance scheme. Previously, the insurance cover was ₹5 lakh; now it has been increased to ₹10 lakh for each pilgrim.
He explained that doctors and paramedics have been deployed throughout the yatra, including along the route from the base camp to the holy cave. Specialist and super-specialist doctors have also been deployed. Additionally, several volunteer doctors from both Kashmir and Jammu have joined the yatra.
According to officials, elaborate security arrangements have been made ahead of time on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the holy cave shrine, and the route to the cave shrine has been opened ahead of schedule. All necessary infrastructure for the pilgrimage has been prepared.
Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg said that the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir began reviewing the preparations for the pilgrimage in February, and since then, they have been holding regular review meetings to ensure a successful pilgrimage. They are in dialogue with all stakeholders, including those at the Nunwan and Baltal base camps, hotel operators, travel operators, and locals involved in the pilgrimage.
He further added that every year, they strive to improve facilities, and this year too, the same is being done. Security arrangements have been made even before the yatra begins. Coordination is underway, mountain rescue teams have been deployed, weather forecasting teams are active and the surveillance camera network installed all along the route to the holy cave has been fully operational.
