UPI is constantly in the news due to MDR. Meanwhile, someone on X claims to have created a platform that can split any bill into small QR codes of ₹1,999. The user who posted claims that this can avoid the MDR charged on transactions above ₹2,000. The platform is called One999.
However, the question arises: does such a platform really exist? In their post, a user named @aspizu_ also provided a link. Clicking on this link opens a website where you can enter your UPI ID, name, and amount to generate a QR code of ₹1,999.
A user named aspizu_ shared a link on X, stating that their platform splits any amount into separate QR codes of ₹1,999.
For example, if you need to make a merchant UPI payment of ₹10,000, it will generate 6 QR codes. Five of these QR codes will be for ₹1,999, and one will be for a payment of ₹5. This way, the payment is being considered to be MDR-free.
The post includes a link that takes you directly to the One999 platform. Here, you need to enter your UPI ID, name, amount, and payment note.
After this, QR codes worth ₹1,999 can be generated by clicking on Generate QR Codes.
The user shared this website or portal as a prank. In his post, he specifically mentioned that this was just a joke, but when we tested the portal, it appeared to work exactly as intended.
This means that if you correctly enter your UPI ID on the portal and create QR codes, payments can actually be made using those codes. In such a situation, how accurate is it to call this portal a prank?
However, the safety of this portal has not been verified, so the public and businesses should avoid using it.
This post has attracted a large number of comments. People are questioning whether this is a prank or a reality, but the idea has been put forward in the market that such an app could be developed.
While some are calling it tax evasion, others are questioning how this could be tax evasion since the government itself does not recognize it as a tax.
Apart from this, some users shared the links of their apps and platforms and wrote that they are adding this feature to their portal.
