BJP National President Naveen held the first meeting of his new team on Saturday, August 22, 2026. A 10-point resolution on ‘Vande Mataram’ was approved at this meeting. Nitin Naveen stated in a post on X that an important resolution was passed to honor the song and protect its historical legacy.

He stated that everyone at the meeting strongly condemned and opposed the BJP’s resolution to sing only the first two verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ at Congress events. The BJP considers ‘Vande Mataram’ to be India’s national anthem, a symbol of devotion to Mother India, a mantra of the freedom struggle, and an immortal symbol of India’s national consciousness. Therefore, the party adopted a 10-point resolution on this issue.

The BJP’s resolution on “Vande Mataram” reads as follows:
The BJP strongly condemns and opposes the decision of the Congress Working Committee on August 19, 2026, which reiterated the 1937 resolution limiting “Vande Mataram” to just the first two verses. The BJP protects the honor, dignity, heritage, and national character of the entire song “Vande Mataram,” recognizing it as India’s national song, an immortal symbol of national consciousness, and a glorious legacy of the freedom struggle. The party firmly stands by its position that the national song, Vande Mataram, should be given equal legal protection as declared by the Constituent Assembly in 1950 and by Parliament in 2026, just like “Jana Gana Mana.” We oppose any attempt to make the national song a victim of communal pressure, political appeasement, or narrow vote-bank politics. We remind the Congress that no resolution of its Working Committee can override the constitutional institutions of India and the laws enacted by Parliament. The political compromise of 1937 cannot be placed above the constitutional decision of 1950 and the law enacted by Parliament in 2026. We will expose to the public the historical and political context in which the verses of ‘Vande Mataram’ were limited, including the objections of the Muslim League and the subsequent politics of growing communal and separatist demands. We will spread to everyone Mahatma Gandhi’s historic statement in which he described ‘Vande Mataram’ as an ‘anti-imperialist slogan’ and associated with the ‘purest national sentiment’. A nationwide campaign will be launched by BJP workers to spread the history, meaning, national significance, and glorious heritage of ‘Vande Mataram’ to every corner of India. A special awareness campaign will be launched among the next generation so that the entire national anthem, comprising the six verses of Vande Mataram, and its history are not forgotten, so that future generations understand how deeply ‘Vande Mataram’ is intertwined with the memories of India’s independence, struggle, sacrifice, and national awakening. The honor and legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’ will not be compromised for political gain or appeasement.

The issue is not about that either. It is about India’s honor and the legacy of countless patriots who sacrificed everything for the country’s independence.

The BJP appeals to the countrymen to always remember this legacy and not limit it to the calculations of today’s vote-bank politics.

He said that the words of ‘Vande Mataram’ were once so powerful that an empire trembled in fear. These words awakened the spirit of resistance, which is why the British tried to suppress them. For generations, Indians have adopted these lines as a mantra of freedom, sacrifice, and national pride. Nitin Nabin said that ‘Vande Mataram’ was the victory cry of India’s independence in 1947. Under the leadership of PM Modi, the grand proclamation of a ‘developed India’ in 2047 will also be ‘Vande Mataram’.
