The company is now preparing to introduce a dedicated account password feature in place of the 6-digit PIN used for two-step verification for years. This feature will make users’ accounts more secure from cyberattacks and hacking than ever before.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp’s latest updates and features, WhatsApp is taking a major step to further strengthen its users’ security. The company is now preparing to replace the 6-digit numeric PIN used for two-step verification for years with a dedicated password. With this new feature, users will be able to create a password that uses both letters and numbers instead of a PIN to protect their accounts.
WhatsApp’s new two-step verification system will further improve privacy. The new password system will make it much more difficult for cybercriminals or hackers to crack someone’s account. This will be especially beneficial for users who use WhatsApp for digital payments, financial transactions, or sharing personal data.
According to media reports, beta testing has also revealed that WhatsApp will check the user’s password strength when setting it. Users will only be able to save it if the password is secure.
This new password feature will work in conjunction with WhatsApp’s existing login process.
First, the user will need to enter the SMS verification code received on their phone number.
After this, they will need to enter the newly created password to access the account.
It’s important to note that, like the existing PIN, this new password feature will be completely optional. Users who don’t want to enable two-step verification will not be affected by this new change.
This feature is currently in the early stages of development. The company has not yet announced an official release date for this feature. WhatsApp may make changes to this feature based on the testing results.
