Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju met in Parliament today. According to sources, the Union Minister sought to gauge the opposition party’s stance on the Delimitation Bill. It is reported that the meeting lasted approximately 50 minutes, and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi was also present.
This meeting comes at a time when the opposition has been continuously creating a ruckus in the House, demanding the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister. Opposition MPs also protested by marching to the Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex today.
Significant news has emerged regarding the Delimitation Bill. According to sources, the Delimitation Bill may be introduced in Parliament during the Monsoon Session itself. The session could be extended for a few days. It is believed that the Monsoon Session, which ends on August 13th, may be extended until August 18th.
While opposition MPs are creating a huge uproar in the Parliament complex, Rahul Gandhi and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju met in Parliament House. It is believed that this is a major initiative by the government to break the deadlock in the House. According to sources, the Delimitation Bill was discussed in detail in this meeting. However, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his objection to Union Minister Amit Shah’s statement and demanded action against the policemen who lathi-charged the students.
It is reported that the government is also in talks with other opposition parties regarding the Delimitation Bill. The aim is to reach a consensus and bring the Delimitation Bill back to the House. The meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Kiren Rijiju lasted approximately 50 minutes. Significantly, this is the second meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Kiren Rijiju within 10 days.
