WhatsApp announced these three new features in a blog post. These features include polls, @all mentions, and creating smaller groups within larger groups. The new features aim to help users make quick decisions and ensure that no messages get lost in the group.
These WhatsApp features aren’t entirely new; WhatsApp already had polls and @all mentions. However, this new update further improves existing features and introduces a much easier way to create a new group from an existing group.
WhatsApp has made three major changes to the poll feature to make it more useful:
Set an End Time: Users can now set a deadline for the poll. Voting will automatically close once the deadline is reached. This feature will be especially useful when a group needs to make a decision by a specific time.
Hide Voter Name: WhatsApp now offers the option to hide the name of the person voting in the poll. This means that other group members won’t be able to see which option they chose. This will allow people to express their honest opinions without hesitation.
Edit a poll within 15 minutes: If you notice a typo or need to change a question after creating a poll, you can edit it within 15 minutes. This eliminates the need to create a new poll.
Admins’ control over @all mentions: The @all feature, which allows you to tag everyone in a WhatsApp group, has now become more advanced. In large groups with more than 32 members, only group admins can use @all mentions. WhatsApp has also given users control over how they receive notifications. They can also mute @all alerts in their notification settings.
It’s now easier to start a separate conversation on a specific topic within a large WhatsApp group. WhatsApp now has a feature that allows you to create a new group with a single tap by selecting members from an existing group. This eliminates the need to manually add each person separately.
This feature will be especially useful when only a few members of a large group need to create separate plans.
WhatsApp says these new changes are part of other group features introduced earlier this year. Previously, the company had also introduced features like Group Message History, Member Tags, and Event Reminders.
