The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) and Punjab Police have made several shocking revelations regarding the recent student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. According to police and security agencies from both states, a deep-rooted conspiracy was hatched by terrorist handlers from across the border (Pakistan) to carry out a major attack and create chaos during the protest. The investigation has revealed revelations related to this conspiracy.
The Punjab Police investigation has revealed that an ISI-backed module was planning a petrol bomb attack. Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that they have busted two cross-border terrorist modules supported by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. Members of these modules were planning to carry out petrol bomb attacks during the ongoing student protest at Jantar Mantar.
Amritsar Police have detained nine accused in this case, including four juveniles. Three illegal pistols, four petrol bombs, and nine live cartridges were recovered from them.
During interrogation, it was revealed that eight members of this group had also reached the Jantar Mantar protest site in Delhi, where they received materials for making petrol bombs and local logistics support.
Faced by the heavy vigilance and tight security arrangements by the Delhi Police and security forces at Jantar Mantar, the accused became frightened and returned to Punjab without carrying out the attack, after which they were arrested.
The West Bengal Police (STF) has exposed the links of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) to the Jantar Mantar protest. They had infiltrated the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar wearing police uniforms. The West Bengal STF arrested suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist Hameem Mandal and his associate Arpita Sarkar from Burdwan. During interrogation, it was revealed that their Pakistani handlers had instructed them to purchase police uniforms and enter the Jantar Mantar student protest. The goal was to incite unrest by inciting a riot. As part of a conspiracy, the suspects were to enter the protest in police uniforms and engage in violent acts, in order to precipitate a major confrontation between the protesting students and the Delhi Police and spread nationwide unrest.
The STF recovered WhatsApp, Instagram, and Telegram chats from the accused’s phones that directly linked them to their Pakistan-based handlers (the Shahzad Bhatti gang), detailing a thorough plan to target the Jantar Mantar protest.
Overall, the investigation reports by the police of both states clearly indicate that anti-national elements were attempting to exploit the country’s largest student protest to launch a major terrorist attack or violent riot in Delhi, but they were foiled in time.
