Samajwadi Party MP from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Shivpal Singh Patel, has claimed that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi left the Amethi seat out of fear. He said that Rahul Gandhi left the Amethi seat out of fear. After Akhilesh Yadav’s persuasion, he agreed to contest from Rae Bareli. He also promised to give Congress 25 to 50 seats in the 2027 UP elections as part of an alliance. His statement has now sparked heated debate. In fact, there has been a continuous exchange of words between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party regarding the seat-sharing issue for the UP Assembly elections. Leaders from both parties are constantly making claims about seats.
The SP MP claimed that National President Akhilesh Yadav told him to contest, and if he didn’t, we will field our own candidate. After this, he reluctantly agreed to contest from Rae Bareli, the traditional seat of the Nehru family. They were able to win because of our full support. He said that every single vote of the Samajwadi Party went to the Congress. The SP’s full support was the reason they won the Lok Sabha elections. This is why they were able to win six seats.

Samajwadi Party MP Shivpal Singh Patel said that the Congress should not demand more than 50 seats in the UP elections. He termed the ally’s demand for 150 seats as unreasonable. The MP said that the Congress should make demands based on its current political strength and organization. He even said that giving the Congress more than 50 seats could harm the Samajwadi Party’s seats.

The SP MP said that the seat allocation would be decided by party national president Akhilesh Yadav. However, he called the Congress’s demand extremely unreasonable. He said that the Congress currently has two MLAs in the UP Assembly, while we have 125 MLAs. Based on this, they should get seven to eight seats. They should then demand more seats based on the Lok Sabha election results.

He said, “Give Congress 30 seats, 35, 40, 50. Giving them more than that would be a waste of seats.”
