The political temperature in the capital, Delhi, is at its peak. While opposition parties—Congress, TMC, and Samajwadi Party—are cornering the central government on various issues both inside and outside Parliament, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also launched a strong campaign against the Punjab government and the statements of Congress leaders.
The ruling party is extremely aggressive over the statements made by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has demanded a public apology from Rahul Gandhi. Kangana sternly stated that Rahul Gandhi should immediately apologize for his statement. “You cannot spread rumors and lies like this and make such serious allegations against anyone without any evidence.”
Opposition leaders have criticized the central government for the crackdown on protesters at Jantar Mantar and the use of police force. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi attacked the government on issues ranging from changing the color of the Hockey India team’s jersey to attempts to rewrite history. Priyanka said that the nation’s soul rests on non-violence, truth, and brotherhood. Neither the RSS nor anyone else can take this away. Referring to the injured youth brought to Parliament by Rahul Gandhi, she asked, “What was found in the body of the boy Rahul Gandhi brought? Where did the pellets come from, did they fall from the sky?”
Meanwhile, TMC MP Mahua Moitra directly questioned, “The main issue is why did you allow pellet guns and batons to be used against unarmed protesters? The country demands answers from you for this firing.” Congress MP Vamsi Krishna asked, “On whose orders did the police, which fall under the Home Ministry, order the lathicharge on women and students?” Meanwhile, Karti Chidambaram demanded the government make public an impartial investigation report on the entire incident and the weapons used.”
Samajwadi Party (SP) MPs staged a strong protest in the Parliament complex, carrying banners and placards, over alleged financial irregularities and misappropriation of donations at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The opposition alleges that the faith of devotees is being tampered with and that an impartial investigation is necessary.
Political activity is also escalating outside Parliament. BJP workers staged a strong protest outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office in Delhi over the alleged paper leak in Punjab. They raised slogans demanding the immediate resignation of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
While the opposition is unitedly cornering the government on issues such as the Jantar Mantar incident, the use of pellet guns, and alleged embezzlement in the Ram Temple Trust during the Parliament session, the BJP is also counterattacking by raising Rahul Gandhi’s statements and corruption in AAP-ruled states.
