The political turmoil has intensified following media reports of disagreements within the Election Commission (ECI) regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party. Reacting to the BJP’s statement that Congress questions the legitimacy of elections if it fails to win, Priyanka said the BJP should stop making “lazy excuses.”
Speaking to reporters in Wayanad, her parliamentary constituency, Priyanka Gandhi said, “This is a very old and weak story. There are facts and evidence. It is in front of the entire country. My brother (Rahul Gandhi) has presented this in several press conferences. He has presented the evidence. Now it is absolutely clear that the names of 130 million voters have been deleted.”
Priyanka Gandhi said, “This is a lame excuse, and the BJP should stop making such excuses.” If they are rigging elections, and if their leadership is getting the Election Commission to do so, then it’s an act of treason, and they should be aware of it and take responsibility for it.
The Congress leader accused the BJP of being “overconfident” about rigging elections. He said, “If they (the BJP) are doing this, why can’t they say it? What are they afraid of? How many years have they been rigging elections? Naturally, they are so overconfident all the time.”
A day earlier, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the BJP-led central government. He called on Gyanesh Kumar to resign and become a government witness in the vote-stealing case.
At a press conference, Rahul Gandhi questioned the absence of anti-incumbency measures against the BJP. Demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, he said, “What you have done is tantamount to treason. It’s an attack on the Constitution and the country’s legal framework.” We will not allow democracy in India to be destroyed and will not sit idly by. Those responsible will be punished sooner or later.
