President Draupadi Murmu has agreed to meet with the leaders of the “India” coalition at 8 pm on Friday. Sources said the President has summoned opposition leaders for a meeting later this evening. The opposition has requested an appointment with the President to discuss the issue of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal stated on Thursday that the “India” coalition had requested an appointment with President Draupadi Murmu and was awaiting a response from Rashtrapati Bhavan. According to Venugopal, the initial request for a meeting was sent on October 2nd. Following this, Rashtrapati Bhavan requested the names of the leaders who would attend the meeting. Accordingly, the coalition sent a second request on October 5th, providing the names of the leaders and requesting an appointment for the meeting on October 7th, 8th, or 9th. He had said that a response would be awaited until Friday.

Last week, the “India” alliance finalized a joint action plan on the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. As part of this, it was decided to hold rallies at various locations and launch a “Save Democracy” march. Opposition parties have been protesting in different ways every day for the past three days.
