After 5G, work on 6G mobile networks is underway worldwide. Reliance Jio has also accelerated its preparations. Jio claims that when the world finalizes 6G standards in 2030, India will be among the first to roll it out. The company has also developed its own pre-6G stack and Giga MIMO radio. It was showcased at the ongoing India Mobile Congress 2026 in Delhi and claims to be India’s first Giga MIMO radio.
According to Jio, the capacity of a 6G network could be up to five times greater than current 5G. The goal is to reduce latency by approximately 10 times. Simply put, the network will be able to handle more data and users simultaneously, while the response time to a command could be significantly reduced, and data speeds will also increase. Its benefits can be seen in real-time AI, holographic video, medical, education, and other new digital services.
At the IMC, Jio showcased a Giga MIMO radio. Jio is calling it India’s first Giga MIMO radio. It also showcased a common baseband unit that can work for both 5G and 6G.
The race for 6G isn’t just about higher capacity or lower latency. Participation in developing global standards and technologies will be equally important.
According to Jio, the company has filed over 8,000 patents, hundreds of which are related to 6G. Furthermore, the company claims over 934 contributions to global standards.
AI services will be faster in 6G, enabling faster response times. This could be beneficial in services where immediate information or answers are essential. Farmers, doctors, and students will be able to access AI-based services more quickly. Additionally, Jio is working to make its future networks AI-native and quantum-safe, ensuring both fast and robust security.
According to Jio, its efforts are not limited to rolling out 6G networks. The company aims to expand its presence across all four fronts: hardware, software, patents, and global standards.
