US President Donald Trump met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G7 Summit in France. This meeting between President Donald Trump and PM Modi is extremely important in terms of global diplomacy. Both leaders greeted each other with smiles and a warm handshake. This is the first meeting between the two leaders after 16 months.
This is the first meeting between PM Modi and Trump since the Middle East war that began in February. This war disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, impacting India and the entire world. Previously, PM Modi and Trump met in Washington in February 2025. Beyond the G7 Summit, the two leaders will discuss important issues such as trade, investment, defense cooperation, security in the Indo-Pacific region, and the crisis in West Asia.
Negotiations are currently underway between India and the US regarding a trade agreement. PM Modi and Trump may also review trade agreements. However, no final deal is expected to be announced at the G7 Summit. Today’s meeting between PM Modi and Trump was informal. However, bilateral talks between the two countries are also proposed.
It is noteworthy that PM Modi has reached France to attend the G7 Summit and discuss important global issues with world leaders. This is the eighth consecutive G7 Summit to which India has been invited. PM Modi arrived in Evin from Geneva. Modi was welcomed by Swiss President Guy Parmelin at the Geneva airport. Both leaders greeted each other warmly and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the India-Switzerland partnership.
