Mumbai: The mysterious death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has once again come into the spotlight. In a significant development, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the probe into her death.
The court has also directed the CBI to register an FIR and record the statement of Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian. The development comes nearly six years after her death and could potentially reopen several questions surrounding the case.
Why Did the Bombay High Court Order a CBI Probe?
The court’s decision came while hearing a petition filed by Satish Salian, who had questioned the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death as well as the investigation conducted by the Mumbai Police.
A bench comprising Justice Sarang Kotwal and Justice Ranjitsinh Raja Bhonsle issued several directions to ensure that the case is investigated afresh by the central agency.
As part of the process, the CBI has been directed to formally register an FIR and record Satish Salian’s statement. The Mumbai Police has also been ordered to hand over all relevant case records and documents to the CBI.
Court Issues Important Caution During Investigation
The High Court has made it clear that no individual should be treated as an accused merely on the basis of allegations.
Any further action against a person will have to be based on material or evidence that emerges during the investigation. This direction is significant as the case has been surrounded by several allegations and controversies over the years.
What If the CBI Finds No Criminal Case?
The court has also addressed the possibility that the CBI may not find sufficient material to establish a criminal offence.
If the investigation does not reveal a prosecutable case, the CBI can submit an appropriate summary or closure report before the concerned court.
Satish Salian will have the liberty to challenge such a report if he disagrees with the findings of the investigating agency.
What Happened to Disha Salian on June 8, 2020?
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area.
Following the incident, the Mumbai Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and began an investigation. The police subsequently concluded that the death was a case of suicide.
However, Disha’s father did not accept the police’s conclusion and later approached the Bombay High Court, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death and the manner in which the case had been investigated.
Serious Allegations Raised by Disha Salian’s Father
In his petition, Satish Salian alleged that his daughter had not died by suicide but had been subjected to gang rape and murder.
The petition also alleged that there had been an attempt to suppress the matter and influence or conceal evidence in order to protect certain influential individuals.
These allegations have not been independently established and remain subject to investigation. The High Court’s order does not establish the guilt of any individual. Any such conclusion will depend on the evidence that emerges during the CBI investigation.
What Did the Petition Say About Aaditya Thackeray?
Satish Salian’s petition had also sought registration of an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
However, the High Court’s latest order should not be interpreted as a finding of guilt against any individual. The court has specifically indicated that action against anyone will depend on the material and evidence that emerges during the investigation.
What Happens Next?
With the Bombay High Court ordering a CBI probe, the case is now set to enter a fresh phase.
The CBI will proceed with the FIR, record the statement of Disha Salian’s father and obtain the relevant records from the Mumbai Police. The agency will then conduct its investigation and determine whether there is sufficient evidence to establish any criminal offence.
The court’s decision marks a significant development in a case that has remained controversial for years and has repeatedly drawn public attention because of its alleged links to the wider controversy surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
For Disha Salian’s family, the CBI investigation represents a new opportunity to seek answers about the circumstances surrounding her death. The final picture, however, will emerge only after the investigation is completed and the evidence is examined.
