He went to a local shop and called out, “Brother, feed me some good Jhalmuri.” He even gave the shopkeeper money. When the shopkeeper asked, “Sir, do you eat onions?” PM Modi replied, “Yes, I only eat onions. I just don’t eat brains.” PM Modi then gave the shopkeeper 10 rupees. When the shopkeeper refused to accept the money, PM Modi replied, “No, not like that.” PM Modi also shared the video, which has become a headline, quickly surpassing a million views.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared photos on the social media platform X, writing, “On a busy Sunday filled with four public meetings across West Bengal, I enjoyed some delicious and spicy puffed rice in Jhargram.” PM Modi campaigned extensively in West Bengal on Sunday, addressing rallies in Bishnupur, Jhargram, and then Medinipur.
Spicy and flat Jhalmuri is a popular dish in West Bengal. The crispy puffed rice (lai) is made with finely chopped onions, tomatoes, boiled potatoes, green chilies, roasted peanuts, chanachur/mixture, mustard oil, lemon juice, and chaat masala, all mixed well. In some places, it’s slightly modified to suit tastes. When PM Modi purchased Jhalmuri in Jhargram, the shopkeeper was overjoyed. He even took 10 rupees from his turban pocket and gave it to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper happily accepted the note and placed it on his forehead.
