Subsidy for setting up Charging stations will be Rs 75,000 to Rs 2,25,000 on different types of chargers
Even private individuals, private housing societies will be eligible for subsidy
7.5 crore litres of petrol & diesel estimated to be saved every year
Patna, June 05: The state government has taken a slew of measures including incentivising people for installing Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging stations to boost the use of EVs and developing environment friendly transportation system in the state.
The move to provide subsidy will not only ensure clean environment but would also reduce the dependence of petrol and diesel used by passenger and commercial vehicles.
Under the Bihar Electric Vehicle Policy, the state government has decided to give financial incentives for setting up a wide network of EV charging stations across the state, Transport Department Secretary Raj Kumar said and added that financial incentives for setting up EV Charging stations will be Rs 75,000 to Rs 2,25,000 on different types of chargers and in some cases, the subsidy amount could go up to Rs 15,00,000.
Stating that the number of EV charging stations, currently, is almost negligible in the state and people are reluctant to undertake long distance journey using their EVs, Kumar said.
“To overcome with the problem of shortage of EV charging stations along SH, NH and other routes in the state, the state government will be giving subsidy on different types of chargers to facilitate the expansion of modern EV charging stations. The government will be giving subsidy ranging between Rs 75,000 to Rs 2,25,000,” Kumar said adding that it will ensure that citizens have easy, reliable, and convenient access to charging facilities.
EV CHARGING STN TO BE OPENED UP AT SH, NH, CITY ROADS, PUMPS, HOTELS, MOTELS
Transport Department has proposed the development of EV charging stations at strategic locations, including national and state highways, petrol pumps, hotels, motels, bus terminals, commercial areas, parking facilities, and other public places, he said.
Even private individuals, private housing societies will be eligible for getting subsidy for setting up EV charging stations, he said.
USE OF EVs WILL SAVE 7.5 CRORE LITRES OF PETROL/DIESEL PER YEAR
Stating that the decision will boost EV sales in the state that will, in turn, ensure clean environment, the Secretary said that the move would also reduce the dependence on petrol and diesel, used by passenger and commercial vehicles.
It is estimated that 7.5 crore litres of petrol and diesel will be saved every year from the extensive use of EVs, he added.
Modern EV charging infrastructure will be developed along national highways and in urban areas under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, he said.
SUBSIDY OF RS 1 LAKH TO WOMEN BUYING ELECTRIC FOUR-WHEELER & RS 12,000 FOR BUYING TWO-WHEELER
As part of its policy to boost EV sales, the state cabinet had on May 13, 2026 approved Chief Minister Bihar Environment-Friendly Transport Employment Scheme) and Bihar Electric Vehicle (Amendment) Policy, 2026) to give incentives to buy electric vehicles.
The government has set its target of EV 30@30 which means that 30 per cent of all newly purchased & registered vehicles in Bihar will be electric vehicles by 2030.
Under the scheme, women buying electric four-wheelers will receive subsidy of up to Rs 1 lakh while they will get a subsidy of Rs 12,000 for buying electric two-wheelers. People from general category will get a subsidy of Rs 10,000 for buying two-wheelers whereas beneficiaries from SC and ST categories will receive Rs 12,000 per vehicle.
Similarly, for the purchase of electric commercial three-wheelers, the general category will be provided financial assistance of Rs 50,000, whereas SC and ST beneficiaries will be eligible for getting assistance of up to Rs 60,000.
The incentive amount will be applicable for the financial year 2026-27.
EV CHARGING STATION INCENTIVE AMOUNT--
Giving details of subsidy, the Secretary said that different types of subsidy will be given on different types of chargers.
AC Charger (3 Guns) – Slow/Medium Charger
For the first 900 AC chargers, eligible applicants will receive a subsidy covering 75 per cent of the charger equipment cost along with Rs 15,000 towards installation expenses (excluding the cost of land). The maximum subsidy available per charger is capped at Rs 75,000.
AC Charger (2 Guns) – Fast Charger:
For the first 450 chargers, a subsidy will be provided for each charger amounting to 75 per cent of the cost of the charger equipment/machine, along with Rs 37,500 towards installation expenses (excluding the cost of land). However, the total subsidy payable will not exceed Rs 2,25,000 per charger.
DC Charger (2 Guns) – Slow/Medium Charger:
For the first 450 chargers, a subsidy will be provided for each charger amounting to 75 per cent of the cost of the charger equipment/machine, along with Rs 37,500 towards installation expenses (excluding the cost of land). The total subsidy payable will not exceed Rs 2,25,000 per charger.
CCS/CHAdeMO Charger (2 Guns) Fast Charger:
The first 90 chargers will be eligible for a subsidy of 50 per cent of the charger equipment/machine cost per charger, along with Rs 1,50,000 toward installation expenses (excluding land cost). The maximum subsidy payable per charger will be capped at Rs 15 lakh.
