After Anurag Thakur’s assurance, Wrestlers announced to discontinue protest against WFI

New Delhi: Wrestlers sitting on dharna at Jantar Mantar against Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh held a meeting with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur late at night. In the press conference after the meeting which lasted for about 7 hours, Anurag Thakur told that the president of the wrestling association would stay away from the daily work and cooperate in the investigation.

The players sitting on dharna against the President of Wrestling Federation of India met Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. After the meeting was over, Sports Minister and the players held a press conference.

Sports Minister said that we have unanimously decided that a monitoring committee will be formed. The names of the people involved in this will be announced soon. This committee will complete its investigation in 4 weeks and thoroughly investigate all the allegations against WFI and its chief.

During this, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that we are talking for the last 7 hours. All the wrestlers told about the allegations levelled against the wrestling association, we heard all their demands. After the players’ allegations, we sent a notice to the WFI and sought its reply within 72 hours.

He said that till the completion of the investigation of the committee, the president of the wrestling association will stay away from daily work and he will cooperate in the investigation. The inquiry report of the committee will come in four weeks.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia said that we are confident that there will be a fair investigation. Poonia said that the Union Sports Minister listened to our demands and assured proper investigation. I thank them and we hope that there will be a fair investigation. That’s why we are withdrawing our protest. Along with this, the player said that the players have also received threats from the WFI President in the past. We have got assurance regarding that also.

Let us tell you that wrestlers were protesting for three days at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. On Wednesday, 30 wrestlers including Indian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik opened a front against the Wrestling Federation and its president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.

The players said that women wrestlers are sexually abused. They are being mentally harassed. WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh publicly commits indecency with wrestlers. Abuse is done. Wrestlers claim that the wrestling federation is harassing wrestlers in the name of rules. Wrestlers have raised the demand to dissolve the wrestling federation.
