Mohammed Hamid has been arrested from Renaissance Housing in Burdwan. Hamid, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist affiliated with the Sajjad Bhat group, had been living in Bengal for several years. Documents related to Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari’s activities, events, and VIP visits were recovered from the arrested Hamid. It is reported that the Jaish terrorist had plans to attack the Chief Minister. Police have also recovered some other incriminating information from him, which investigating officers are still reluctant to discuss.
According to information received so far, Burdwan police and the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a raid at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday and arrested the terrorist from Renaissance Housing in Burdwan. The terrorist, Mo Hamid, possessed confidential information regarding various government activities, especially the Chief Minister’s activities, such as the vehicle he was traveling in, when he boarded the vehicle, the distance traveled, the driver, and where it was parked. This information is of great concern to police headquarters.
The arrested accused was produced in a Burdwan court today and police remand has been sought. Investigating agencies are working to determine who else he was in contact with, whether he has links to a larger terrorist network, and whether he has other associates active in the state.
Given the seriousness of the case, security has been tightened in West Bengal. The Special Task Force (STF) and state police are jointly investigating the entire network. Officials say that further revelations in this case may emerge after interrogation.
According to intelligence sources, Hamid was a resident of Peelkhana, Howrah. He worked in a textile factory. He had gone to Bardhaman two months ago. He had received training in Pakistan and was working as an ISI handler. He was in regular contact with Pakistani intelligence agencies. Mo Hamid’s Sajjad Bhat group has links with international terrorist organizations. Therefore, the plot to attack the Chief Minister has become a headache for intelligence agencies. The Sajjad Bhat group is involved in contract killings and terrorist activities.
Local residents reported that Hamid had been living in a rented house with his family for the past two to three months. He lived there with his wife, two sons, and a daughter. None of the residents had seen Hamid much. However, family members visited him regularly. In this context, BJP MLA and former NSG commander Dipanjan Chakraborty said that these terrorists were receiving support from the grassroots level. Just as their support has been eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir, we must do the same here.
