Following the resignation of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar is being rumored to be the next Chief Minister of the state. However, regarding the issue of swearing-in as Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar says that he does not know when the legislative party leader will be elected or what decision has been taken in this regard. The decision to take the oath will be made only after that. DK Shivakumar also met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on Friday and discussed the political situation in the state.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said regarding the announcement of candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections, “We will announce Karnataka’s candidates along with the lists of other states. This is the information I have received. You can get more information from the party high command. This is not within my jurisdiction.”
Ever since talks of a leadership change in Karnataka have been circulating, the theory has been that Siddaramaiah will go to the Rajya Sabha, and DK Shivakumar will lead the Karnataka government in his place. There is also talk that Siddaramaiah’s son, Yatindra, could be appointed Deputy Chief Minister or Cabinet Minister. Yatindra is on a visit to Delhi with his father, Siddaramaiah, and has met with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. This meeting has further fueled speculation that Yatindra’s stature in Karnataka will rise.
