Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (May 28, 2026) strongly targeted former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee over the infiltration problem in West Bengal. He said that today, newspapers are reporting that earlier, under the Mamata government, there was daily infiltration into West Bengal, but now the infiltrators are going back on their own.
Amit Shah, who was on a visit to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, commented on Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s action against infiltrators in Bengal, saying, “Suvendu ji and the BJP government of Bengal have set up detention centers for infiltrators, but we all want those who have entered illegally to go back to where they came from.”
He said that if they leave on their own, the Bengal government will not file any cases against them and will also assist them in leaving. “I hope that many people will go back on their own before the identification campaign begins.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated, “Our government is committed to expelling every single infiltrator from across the country. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement, the government has constituted a High-Level Committee on Demographic Change.”
He stated that this committee will comprehensively study the artificial changes taking place in the population across the country, their causes, and measures to prevent them. He also stated that it will recommend legislation, if necessary. This committee will submit its report within a year, and our government will work vigorously to prevent artificial demographic change.
Regarding the issue of allocating land for the Border Security Force (BSF) in the border areas of West Bengal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated, “We had said during the Bengal elections that if you give us the reins of governance, we will begin the remaining fencing work on the Bangladesh border within a few days.”
He said that I want to congratulate Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari ji that he handed over 600 hectares of land to BSF in just 7 days. Along with this, 121 hectares of land of Chicken Neck was also handed over to BSF.
