These days, you’ll find RO machines in every home, from cities to villages. But do you know whether the RO water you think is clean is actually improving or harming your health? Two questions often come to mind: First, what should be the TDS of RO water? And second, when should it be serviced?
In an interview with the media, Dr. Anoop Kumar explained that an incorrect TDS of RO water has a negative impact on your health. Dr. Anoop Kumar is the head of the Urology, Robotics, and Renal Transplant Department at the prestigious VMMC and Safdarjung Hospitals in New Delhi. Dr. Anoop Kumar explains that the first thing you should check is the TDS of your RO.
TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids. Simply put, it’s the amount of minerals dissolved in water, such as calcium, magnesium, and salt. These minerals are essential for our bones and health.
According to health experts and the World Health Organization (WHO), the best TDS for drinking water is between 50 and 150. If your RO reduces the TDS of water below 50, then understand that all the essential minerals have disappeared from the water. Such water is completely dead. Drinking it continuously can weaken your bones, cause hair loss, and make you feel tired all the time.
In an interview given to the media, Dr. Anoop Kumar said that if the TDS is more than 300, then the taste of the water will seem a bit heavy and salty, so whenever the service person comes, ask him to set the TDS of your RO between 70 to 150. If you want, you can also check the TDS of your water yourself by purchasing a TDS meter available online.
Most people do not even look at their RO until it stops dispensing water or a strange smell starts coming from it. This is a big mistake. Drinking poorly filtered water is like inviting diseases. Keep these things in mind for timely service. The white colored bottle hanging outside the machine should be replaced every 3 to 4 months, because all the dirt and grime settles there first. It is necessary to change the filters inside the machine every 6 to 8 months. RO membrane is the most important part of RO. You can get it replaced between 1 to 2 years. This depends on the amount of dirt in the water supply coming to your house.
If the speed of filling water has reduced considerably, the taste of water seems a little bitter or strange, or there is a loud rattling sound coming from the machine, then understand that your RO needs a mechanic.
