Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The petition seeks intervention in the alleged vote theft case through a Special Intensive Revision Exercise. The Supreme Court has stated that it will hear the petition tomorrow (Tuesday, October 13, 2026).

To file this petition, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with thousands of INDIA Bloc supporters, marched to the Supreme Court. The original plan was to submit a memorandum to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, but when the Chief Justice refused to meet them and asked them to approach the court as litigants, the leaders decided to file a formal petition. Notably, Rahul Gandhi could not reach the Supreme Court before the deadline of 4:30 pm, so his petition was filed by lawyer S. Prasanna.

The India Coalition’s petition demands a hearing on the SIR process. It challenges the removal of millions of names. It also raises questions about the Election Commission’s functioning.

Rahul Gandhi is the primary petitioner, appearing first in the petition. He is followed by Mallikarjun Kharge, Saugata Roy, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Sanjay Raut, M.A. Baby, D. Raja, Mahua Majhi, Supriya Sule, and E.T. Mohammed Sameer Bashir. The Election Commission and Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar have been named as respondents in the case.

Regarding the India Coalition’s petition, the Supreme Court has directed the case registry to process the petition today and rectify any defects so that the matter can be listed in court tomorrow. The case is to be heard by a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant. It is noteworthy that the CJI stated in his response that if the petition is filed by Monday evening, it will be heard on Tuesday.
