Following the increase in petrol and diesel prices, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi alleged that “Inflation Man Modi” makes promises during elections and attacks the public’s pockets the rest of the time. Petrol prices have been increased by ₹2.61 per liter, while diesel prices have been increased by ₹2.71 per liter. This is the fourth increase in petrol and diesel prices in less than two weeks.
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi posted on Instagram, “Inflation Man Modi attacks again. He increases petrol and diesel prices in installments, so that he can keep cutting your pockets secretly.” He said, “I’ve been predicting an economic storm for months. But Modi was busy with elections, as usual, and as soon as the elections were over, he increased the price of petrol and diesel by ₹8. This increase will continue.” The Congress leader claimed that “Inflation Man Modi’s only job is to make promises during elections and attack the public’s pockets the rest of the time.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that this increase in petrol and diesel prices is a daily robbery by the Modi government, and the common people are bearing the brunt of it. Kharge posted on Instagram, “The daily onslaught of fuel plunder is not over yet. Petrol and diesel prices have been increased for the fourth time in 10 days. Petrol prices have increased by Rs 7.35 per liter and diesel by Rs 7.53 per liter.” He alleged that the Modi government has sprayed petrol to burn the savings of the common people.
The Congress President said that between 2004 and 2014, during the UPA government, international crude oil prices increased by 175.34 percent. During the Modi government, international crude oil prices did not increase even by one percent. Despite this, petrol prices under the Modi government increased from Rs 71.41 per liter in 2014 to Rs 102.12 per liter in 2026. This is an increase of 43.01 percent. Diesel prices increased from Rs 56.71 per liter to Rs 95.20 per liter, that is, there was an increase of 67.87 percent. He claimed that the Modi government has looted Rs 43 lakh crore in the last 12 years. Kharge questioned who is benefiting from this daily robbery?
