A writ petition was filed on Tuesday against the manner in which India Block leaders arrived in the Supreme Court on Monday with a large crowd to file a petition against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision process. The CJI’s bench in the Supreme Court has been urged to initiate criminal contempt proceedings as the matter involves obstruction of justice. The bench headed by CJI Surya Kant has ruled that it can be mentioned.

According to a Bar & Bench report, senior Supreme Court advocate Gaurav Bhatia has sought the Supreme Court’s intervention in the matter of India Block leaders entering the Supreme Court’s filing counter on Monday. He described it as a “tragic incident” and requested a hearing.

He informed the bench comprising CJI Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana that he has received the diary number.

Justice Bagchi asked, “Is this on the list?” Bhatia replied, “I now have the diary number.”

Gaurav Bhatia later wrote on his X-post regarding this case that the writ petition was filed by Digant Mishra, Divyansh Bisht, and other lawyers, with Utkarsh Jaiswal as advocate on record.

The matter pertains to obstructions around the Supreme Court on October 12, 2026.

The matter is listed for hearing on October 15, 2026.

Request for initiation of criminal contempt proceedings
According to Gaurav Bhatia, the main requests to the Supreme Court through the writ petition are:

Initiate criminal contempt proceedings against political leaders who obstruct justice.

Political demonstrations should be banned within the court premises.

A neutral framework should be established for demonstrations around the court.

CCTV and security logs should be preserved.

Pending cases before the court should be protected from political interference.
