Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit New Delhi to attend the BRICS summit in September. ANI reported on Friday, August 14, citing Iranian sources. India holds the BRICS presidency in 2026 and will host the 18th BRICS summit. The summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi, the capital of India. Pezeshkian’s visit to India is considered significant amid the more than five-month-long conflict between the United States and Iran.
The summit will be hosted by India under the theme “Strength, Innovation, Cooperation, and Building for Sustainable Growth.” India assumed the BRICS presidency from Brazil in early 2026.
It is noteworthy that in October 2024, Pezeshkian met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. The two leaders discussed relations between India and Iran and regional issues.
Earlier in June, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited India to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. In a press conference in New Delhi after the meeting, Araghchi praised India’s growing role in maintaining global peace. He stated that India could play a greater role in calming the continuously deteriorating situation in West Asia.
Araghchi clearly stated that Tehran, or Iran, sees no future in weapons or war. He stated that there is no military solution to the current crisis and, according to him, the only correct path forward is to reach a negotiated settlement. Indicating Iran’s readiness for Indian mediation, Araghchi stated that India would welcome any constructive role.
Araghchi also spoke with Foreign Minister S. He also met and talked to Jaishankar. During this, he said that countries having friendly relations with Iran can trust Iran for trade and business security. Araghchi also made it clear that Iran will always fulfill its historical responsibility of protecting the Strait of Hormuz.
