The month of June seems to be a turning point in Indian politics. Recently, 20 TMC MPs, who lost power in Bengal, joined the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, an unknown party from Tripura. Following this, there is talk of these MPs supporting the NDA in any parliamentary voting. Furthermore, there are now discussions of ‘Operation Tiger’ in Maharashtra. There are speculations that six out of nine MPs from the Uddhav faction will leave, and the situation is such that the Uddhav Sena is holding a meeting in Delhi today to placate the MPs.
Now, if this faction splits and sides with Eknath Shinde, the Uddhav Sena will be significantly weakened. Its impact will be felt not only in Maharashtra but also from Delhi to Bihar. Discussions have intensified about how this development could weaken the JDU in Delhi’s power balance. Furthermore, the NDA government’s dependence on Andhra Pradesh’s ruling party, the TDP, will also decrease. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured only 240 seats on its own. Consequently, the role of the JDU and TDP in the central government had become crucial. Now that the BJP has the support of 20 rebel TMC MPs and six other MPs from the Uddhav Sena, its dependence on the JDU and TDP will no longer be as strong as before.
Nitish Kumar’s party, the JDU, was the senior partner in Bihar politics for nearly two decades. However, this year, Nitish Kumar became a Rajya Sabha MP, and BJP’s Samrat Chaudhary assumed the Chief Minister’s post. Thus, the BJP is now in the driving seat in Bihar. The JDU, with its 12 Lok Sabha MPs, was considered a key player in Delhi. However, now that the BJP has increased its government strength through other parties, its dependence on the JDU will also decrease.
Chandrababu Naidu, who has 16 MPs, will face a similar situation. It’s worth noting that the Narendra Modi government has only completed two years of its third term, and it has increased its strength for the next three years by enlisting MPs from other parties. This will ensure both stability and strength for the NDA government.
