Most states now offer the option to fill in details using Aadhaar on their online portals. This allows you to enter only selected details, and the marriage certificate is easily generated at home.
Before applying for a marriage certificate online, it’s important to be prepared with certain documents. These documents are required for this.
Aadhaar cards for both husband and wife
10th grade marksheets or birth certificates for both
Wedding invitation card or marriage certificate from a temple, gurudwara, or church
Joint photo of husband and wife
Aadhaar cards and photos of two witnesses.
To apply for a marriage certificate online, visit your state’s website, such as igrsup.gov.in for Uttar Pradesh or edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in for Delhi. You can search for marriage certificate by typing the name of the state followed by the name of the state.
If you are a new user, create an account by clicking on New User Registration and log in with that account.
After logging in, select Marriage Registration under Services and click on New Application.
After this, start filling out the form and fill in all the information correctly. Here, you will be given the option to fill in details using Aadhaar. Select Yes, enter your Aadhaar number, and verify with an OTP. This will verify all your details.
After this, upload all the required documents. When uploading, ensure that the documents are clear.
Afterward, pay the fee and download the receipt.
Keep the application number you receive after the process is complete. This will allow you to easily check the status of your marriage certificate.
In many states, after applying for a marriage certificate online, you must visit the Sub-Divisional Magistrate or Registrar’s office for verification. In such cases, you will need to schedule a convenient date and time for verification.
On the day of your appointment, arrive at the SDM or Registrar’s office on time with all documents and witnesses.
After verification, your digital marriage certificate will be generated, and you can easily download it by logging in to the portal.
