In the 2026 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party achieved tremendous success in West Bengal, increasing its number of MLAs to 207. In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and the Chief Ministers of several NDA-ruled states, Suvendu Adhikari took the oath of office and secrecy as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari is a Brahmin leader. In other words, the BJP is now preparing to usher in a golden era in West Bengal by relies on a Chief Minister of the Upper Caste, eliminating the terror of the syndicates that flourished during the Communist and TMC regimes.
After securing an overwhelming majority of 207 MLAs in the West Bengal assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, faced several contenders for the post of Chief Minister. Therefore, the BJP, acting under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, has appointed Suvendu Adhikari, who belongs to the Utkal Brahmin community, as Chief Minister. It is no accident that the BJP, acting under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, has appointed Suvendu Adhikari, who belongs to the Utkal Brahmin community, as Chief Minister. There are several reasons behind this, which I will mention one by one.
Suvendu Adhikari was born into a Brahmin family in West Bengal. His father, Shishir Adhikari, was a Union Minister in Manmohan Singh’s government. His mother, Gayatri Devi, is a housewife and social worker. Adhikari entered politics during his student days and was a leader of the Congress Student Council. Subsequently, he won the municipal councilor election.
In mainstream politics, Adhikari became an MLA in 2006 by winning the Kanti South Assembly constituency on a TMC ticket. Subsequently, he won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections on the same TMC ticket, becoming an MP. Subsequently, in the 2014 general elections, under the strong influence of Narendra Modi, many prominent West Bengal leaders lost the election. However, despite the Modi wave, Adhikari successfully won re-election from the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat. Subsequently, in the 2016 assembly elections, he won the Nandigram seat on a TMC ticket and became a minister in Mamata Banerjee’s government.
In 2020, Suvendu Adhikari left the TMC and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Amit Shah inducted him into the BJP at a large rally. In the 2021 West Bengal assembly elections, he caused a sensation by defeating TMC leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram. He became the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. In the 2026 assembly elections, he contested from both Nandigram and Bhawanipur and won both seats. By defeating Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur once again, Suvendu Adhikari impressed everyone, and as a reward, the Bharatiya Janata Party appointed him Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Suvendu Adhikari played a major role in the Nandigram land acquisition case. As the chief organizer of the Land Eviction Resistance Committee, Suvendu Adhikari united local villagers in Nandigram and led grassroots protests against land acquisition by the then Left Front government.
At that time, no one dared to speak out against the Communists, but Suvendu Adhikari stood firmly with the people and eradicated the Left’s terror from their minds. He was also accused of arming the Maoists, but he opposed this and successfully emerged clean in this case, thwarting the government’s attempt to acquire the land of the people of this area.
Suvendu Adhikari’s organizational skills are exceptional. His rallies are not sponsored, yet wherever he goes, people continue to join him. It is thanks to his organizational prowess that the number of Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs increased from 3 to 77 in the 2021 elections, and from 77 to 207 in the 2026 elections.
Like PM Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Shubhendu Adhikari is also unmarried. Although he lives a family life, the reason he has given for remaining unmarried is, like PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath, that he prioritizes public welfare over self or family. He has not only kept this sentiment to himself but has also expressed it from time to time. This is also reflected in his work style. In his public meetings, he often states that he has decided to dedicate his life to society and public service, which is why he did not marry.
Suvendu Adhikari, even while serving as a minister during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure, opposed syndicates and cut money. In such a scenario, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had promised the people during the assembly election campaign that if the BJP government came to power, it would build a society free of fear, may have made Suvendu Adhikari the Chief Minister of West Bengal, seeing his commitment to this cause.
Looking at the performance of some of the BJP’s other Brahmin Chief Ministers, Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra gave the Bharatiya Janata Party, once the younger brother of the Shiv Sena, the opportunity to form its own government twice and a coalition government once. Now, through his actions, Devendra Fadnavis is striving to create a BJP government in the upcoming elections by instilling confidence in the people in good governance.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also comes from the Brahmin community. Through his hard work, he has succeeded in keeping the Bharatiya Janata Party in power in Assam for the second consecutive term. Single-handedly, Himanta Biswa Sarma has significantly increased the number of BJP MLAs in Assam from 60 last time to 82.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also belongs to the Rajput caste, which is considered upper caste. However, due to his position as the head of the Gorakhpur Math, he is considered equivalent to a Brahmin. In Uttar Pradesh, he not only set a political record by winning two consecutive elections, but also played a significant role in controlling crime. He is currently working tirelessly to industrialize Uttar Pradesh, building several expressways in the state. As a BJP campaigner, he virtually ensures victory for the BJP candidate in any state. These achievements have led Yogi Adityanath to be seen as a potential successor to PM Modi in much of the country.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, also from the upper caste Rajput community, has also led to his leadership of Uttarakhand by forming the BJP government twice in a row, thus demonstrating the importance of better governance.
It will be interesting to see whether the BJP, with Suvendu Adhikari as its Chief Minister, will succeed in transforming West Bengal from a period of terror to a golden age by eliminating syndicate terror and accelerating sluggish industrialization.
