Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several Delhi Jal Board projects worth ₹8,941 crore to rejuvenate the Yamuna River. During the ceremony, Amit Shah accused the previous Congress and Aam Aadmi Party governments of discharging sewer water into the Yamuna. He also countered the opposition’s stance on vote-stealing and the SIR issue.
Amit Shah said that a different game is going on in Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party has been consistently elected to power. They have stomach aches, so they have resorted to the excuse of vote-stealing. They claim that the BJP is not elected by the people’s votes, but rather by vote-stealing.
Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah said, “Rahul ji, the entire country understands you and your colleagues, and has understood them. By shouting ‘vote-stealing, vote-stealing,’ you want to convert infiltrators into voters and save their votes.”
Amit Shah said, “Today, from this platform, I want to tell the Congress party and its allies that sometimes you bring up the EVM excuse, sometimes you raise the excuse of vote theft, but I tell you that before the BJP formed the Modi government at the center, you never got elected in many states. You haven’t formed a government in Gujarat for 41 years, you haven’t won a single election. You haven’t won an election in Uttar Pradesh for 41 years, you haven’t won an election in Bengal for 54 years, you haven’t won an election in Tamil Nadu for 64 years, you haven’t formed a full majority government in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh for 28 years, you haven’t been elected in Arunachal Pradesh for 12 years, you haven’t been elected in Mizoram for 13 years, you haven’t been elected in Manipur for 14 years, you haven’t been elected in Delhi for 18 years, and you haven’t been elected in Assam for 12 years. Did all this start before Modi came to power?”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Now that I say the BJP will be in power for 30 years, they tell the public, ‘Look, vote theft is happening.’ Otherwise, how did Amit Shah know? Amit Shah was born here, lives here, and will die here. I don’t have to go abroad every six months. I live among the people of the country. Based on the negative politics you’re engaging in, I say you’ll never form a government from 2014 to 2030.”
Regarding the opposition’s allegations against the Election Commission, Shah said, “When Congress wins elections in Kerala, the Election Commission is good. When you win elections in Telangana, the Election Commission is correct, and the voter list is also correct. But where you lose, the Election Commission is not good. If the courts rule in your favor, they are good, but if they rule against you, you question the courts.”
Amit Shah, while giving a message to Rahul Gandhi, said that these double standards will not work. You can’t deny the public mandate by gathering workers from neighboring states and protesting in Delhi. The people of the country are watching and knowing you.
The Union Minister said, “I know you can’t hear me because you’re abroad. But that’s okay, that’s your personal life. But your turn won’t come for the next 30 years.”
During this, Amit Shah assured the people of Delhi that concrete results will be achieved in cleaning the Yamuna River within the stipulated timeframe.
Amit Shah said, “I have come to tell the people of Delhi that as soon as the Delhi government was formed, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a major meeting within just one month and presented his vision of cleaning the Yamuna River to the Delhi government and the Home Ministry. I am happy that in such a short time, we have achieved more than 40 percent of the work to reduce pollution. Today, this 9,000 crore scheme, including the purification of sewage and various drinking water projects, is being inaugurated and the groundbreaking ceremony is also taking place.”
Amit Shah, targeting the previous Congress and Aam Aadmi Party governments, said that for nearly 30 years, Delhi governments discharged sewage into the Yamuna. He claimed that approximately 2,000 tons of cow dung from dairies in Delhi was also dumped into the Yamuna every day. Shah said that previously, there was also the problem of industrial and sewage water coming from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The Home Minister also launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He said that some political parties make excuses instead of working. According to Shah, previous governments shied away from their responsibilities by citing lack of central assistance. He said, “Kejriwal ji, I have answers to everything you say, but I will respond only when we oust the AAP government in Punjab as well.”
Shah alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in the name of a movement and did nothing but indulge in corruption. He also accused previous governments of playing politics over the garbage mountains in Delhi. Shah said that the BJP government has reduced the garbage mountains, and after two years, a garden appears there.
Amit Shah also took a dig at Kejriwal’s previous promises regarding cleaning the Yamuna. He said that Kejriwal had promised to take a dip in the Yamuna three times, but did not do so. Shah also targeted him by referring to the cut-out incident and alleged that the previous government did not do enough to purify the Yamuna.
The Home Minister said that the BJP government will provide sewer connections to every household in Delhi and provide clean drinking water to the people. He claimed that projects launched to clean the Yamuna and improve Delhi’s drainage system would provide relief to the people of the capital.
