Hindu temples attacked in Bangladesh; 14 idols broken

Dhaka: As many as 12 Hindu temples under Balidangi Upazila in the North Thakurgaon district of Bangladesh were attacked by attackers. The incident happened on Sunday morning when the attackers Islamists destroyed 14 idols in the Hindu temples.

Officer-in-charge of Baliadangi police station Khairul Anam said that the temples are in Dhantala, Paria and Charul unions of the sub-district. Police are trying to nab those involved in the incident.

‘We have spoken to the local Hindu community and asked them not to panic. Additional security measures have been taken. Bipul Kumar said that the situation is now under control.

Charul Union Parishad Chairman Dilip Kumar Chatterjee also confirmed the incident. “As soon as I got the information, I reached the spot in the morning and later informed the local administration about the incident.”

“We have been performing pooja in temples for almost fifty years. There have been no untoward incidents over the years. We want justice.” Dilip Kumar added demanding the arrest of the accused.
