.While Congress is cornering the Election Commission with allegations of “vote theft” in the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the party regarding the results of the Legislative Council elections in four states. Modi asked a question that is likely to be an uncomfortable answer for the Congress. Referring to the MLC elections in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Karnataka, he asked how many seats did Congress win when these elections were conducted using ballot papers. In fact, Congress failed to even open its account in these elections. PM Modi’s comment is being seen as a political counterattack to the opposition’s electoral allegations.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform X that elections were held for 28 Legislative Council seats in four major states: Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Karnataka. He specifically mentioned that voting was conducted using ballot papers. He then asked, “Guess how many seats Congress won?”

Modi’s taunt comes at a time when the Congress party is constantly attacking the party over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and allegations of vote theft. The Prime Minister, citing the party’s performance in the elections conducted using ballot papers, attempted to question the opposition’s arguments.

The Congress and other opposition parties have been raising questions about the electoral process. The Congress party has also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Amidst this political climate, PM Modi’s post has given a new twist to the debate. The BJP argues that even when the elections were conducted using ballot papers, the Congress did not win.

The biggest setback for the Congress came from Karnataka, where it has its own government. The BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) alliance won all four Legislative Council seats. The BJP retained three of its seats, while the JD(S) defeated the Congress in the Bengaluru Teachers’ constituency, snatching a seat from it. This result is also in the news because, despite being in power in the state, the Congress failed to win any seats in these elections.

Citing the results of the MLC elections held in various states, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi strongly targeted Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Questioning the Congress’s performance in the elections, he said that the election results have shattered the hopes of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party to create chaos by making false allegations against the Indian electoral process.

The BJP MP said that the message is clear: the Congress party failed to make its presence felt in these MLC elections. Most importantly, these elections were conducted through ballot boxes and ballot papers, yet the Congress party failed to make its presence felt. In the words of Congress leaders, the party failed to even make its presence felt. This clearly demonstrates that the Congress party lacks the ability to garner public and voter support in any election, whether conducted using EVMs or ballot papers.

Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi, he said, “He has just returned from nearly two weeks of fun and frolic and is now talking about a movement that could pose difficulties for the Indian economy. He should understand that neither the public nor the MLAs are with him. Public support comes from hard work, not from fun and frolic.”
