State-owned telecom company BSNL is bringing a big gift to its customers very soon. If you too are tired of expensive recharge plans and are waiting for a better 5G network, then this news is for you.
The company has provided a major update regarding its 5G rollout timeline and preparations.
State-owned telecom company BSNL is going to launch its 5G services in the country very soon. According to a report in the New Indian Express, the company has set a deadline of December 2026 for the rollout of this 5G service. BSNL Kerala Chief General Manager R. Saji Kumar shared this information during a press conference. He explained that the company can easily switch to the next-generation network. The main reason for this is that BSNL’s existing 4G ecosystem is already fully “5G-ready.”
R. Saji Kumar has been quoted as saying that switching from 4G to 5G will only require a software upgrade. The company has also begun testing its 5G network, developed using indigenous technology. However, before upgrading to 5G, the company wants to fully stabilize its 4G network. According to the official timeline, customers will experience BSNL 5G by December 2026.
Network Coverage and New Towers Plans
BSNL’s Kerala circle alone has approximately 8.6 million mobile users. In this circle, the company has approximately 7,200 4G mobile towers, which can be easily upgraded to 5G. Additionally, 26,300 new mobile towers are being installed to strengthen the 4G ecosystem across the country. This will significantly improve network coverage across the country.
BSNL will install 323 new towers to improve connectivity in remote and rural areas. In addition, 37 new towers will be installed in Lakshadweep. The company has also increased the capacity of its IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). This will make it easier to handle the heavy load on the network, especially during peak hours between 11 am and 12 pm.
According to a report in The Hindu, BSNL plans to launch its 5G services in Andhra Pradesh within the next five to six months. M. Seshachalam, Chief General Manager of BSNL Andhra Pradesh Circle, confirmed this in a press conference. He stated that the initial testing trials of the 5G network have yielded positive results. The company is confident that services will be launched within the planned timeframe.
M. Seshachalam informed that BSNL has approximately 100,000 4G towers nationally. This includes approximately 6,850 towers and 15,000 BTS in the state of Andhra Pradesh alone. Under the government’s saturation project, 1,359 dedicated towers have been installed to provide 4G services to 2,641 remote villages. This will significantly strengthen digital connectivity in rural India.
BSNL is not limited to just mobile networks. The company is also rapidly expanding its satellite phone, entertainment TV, e-SIM, and enterprise services. BSNL is also creating excellent new franchise and partnership opportunities for youth. This will provide new opportunities for self-employment.
