Nurse’s death in Kerala after eating Biryani; hotel’s chief arrested with murder charge

Malappuram: The chief cook has been arrested in connection with the death of a nurse due to food poisoning after consuming Alfam, a Birynai dish at a Malappuram hotel. Gandhinagar police arrested Mohammad Sirajuddin, a resident of Malappuram Tirur. He was arrested from Kadampuzha in Malappuram district.

The accused was charged with murder. Etumanoor court remanded him for 14 days. The police informed that he was hiding in Kadampuzha. The first arrest is made a week after the death. The police have also confirmed that Rashmi Raj, who died of food poisoning, had her food from the hotel called ‘Malappuram Kuzhimanthi’.

Rashmi Raj, a nurse at Kottayam Medical College Hospital, bought and consumed Alfam from Malappuram Komimanthi on December 29. She had vomiting and diarrhoea at night after eating this. With this, colleagues from the hostel admitted her to the medical college.

After the infection was confirmed, she was later transferred to the trauma care intensive care unit. As her condition worsened, he was shifted to the ventilator, but died at 7 o’clock on Monday night.
