The launch of BSNL’s 4G services marks a major upgrade for the state-owned company. The government launched BSNL 4G last year and is now preparing to take it to the next level. According to a report, India has become the fourth country in the world to provide telecom services to the public by incorporating indigenous technology into mobile towers. Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani stated that India is the fourth country in the world to develop its own telecom radio network equipment. However, BSNL still needs mobile towers.
According to an ET Telecom report, the telecom equipment market is currently dominated by Ericsson, Nokia, and China’s Huawei and ZTE. However, the collaboration between India’s TCS, Tejas Networks, and the government agency C-DoT to deliver BSNL 4G in the country has pushed India towards self-reliance.
TCS, Tejas Networks, and C-DoT have deployed 100,000 4G sites for BSNL in the country.
Tejas Networks has also partnered with Japan’s NEC and Rakuten.
Tejas Networks aims to bring indigenous technology abroad and is in talks with global companies.
BSNL faced the challenge of upgrading and scaling its network. The company overcame these challenges. BSNL, in collaboration with domestic companies, overcame these challenges. According to reports, after deploying 100,000 4G sites, TCS expects to receive orders for 23,000 more sites. This means that this network will continue to expand and BSNL will reach even more people.
According to the report, approximately 50,000 batteries, power plants, and old cables installed on BSNL towers have been replaced, further improving network connectivity.
Despite all these achievements, BSNL’s 5G services have not yet been rolled out in the country. BSNL’s other competitors, such as Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea, have been operating 5G services in the country for a long time. BSNL sees a dire need to roll out high-speed internet services along with towers.
