The central government subsequently deducted ₹724 crore to cover the shortfall in the IGST balance, reducing the state’s GST collection to ₹32,077.22 crore. Despite this reduction, the state recorded a 9.20 percent increase in GST collections, compared to the national GST growth of 6 percent. He stated that Bihar’s growth was second only to Karnataka. He noted that these are provisional figures, as collections may increase due to the profession tax, the figures for which will be reflected with a slight delay.
He stated that the department has performed commendably in terms of record revenue collections despite the reduction in GST rates and the assembly elections. In March 2026 alone, compared to March 2025, total GST collections in Bihar increased by 13 percent compared to March 2026, while the national GST collection growth was five percent.
It is worth noting that the Commercial Tax Department collects taxes in four categories: GST, VAT on petrol/diesel, electricity duty, and professional tax.
