The Supreme Court has ordered the SBI to disclose electoral bond details by March 12th.

Date:

The Supreme Court has directed the State Bank of India to disclose all details regarding the electoral bonds by the end of business hours on March 12th. This decision comes after a petition was filed challenging the transparency and accountability of the electoral bond scheme. The court has emphasized the importance of transparency in the electoral process and has ordered the SBI to provide information on the donors, recipients, and amounts of the electoral bonds issued. This move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring greater transparency and accountability in political funding in India. The disclosure of these details will shed light on the flow of money in the electoral process and help in preventing any misuse of funds. It is expected that this decision will have far-reaching implications for the electoral system in India and will pave the way for more transparency and accountability in political funding.

The Supreme Court ordered the State Bank of India to disclose details of electoral bonds and dismissed SBI’s plea for an extension of time. Political leaders like Congress leader Ashok Gehlot and Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan welcomed the SC order, with some calling it a “tough stand”. Congress leader Jaya Thakur also expressed happiness with the court’s decision.

Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan praised the Supreme Court’s decision on SBI’s request to extend the deadline for disclosing information on electoral bonds, calling it a robust and commendable judgment.

Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan stated that the Supreme Court had taken a tough stand on the State Bank of India’s application for an extension of time to disclose details about donors of electoral bonds and the parties that redeemed these bonds. He mentioned that the court had dismissed SBI’s application, pointing out that the data the court had asked for was already available with SBI as per their affidavit. Bhushan emphasized that SBI had to submit the details of the donors and the parties that redeemed these electoral bonds.

Congress leader Ashok Gehlot welcomed the Supreme Court’s order, stating that the court had done the right thing by asking SBI to disclose details of electoral bonds. He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would understand the seriousness of the matter and deliver a verdict that would teach a lesson to those who tried to befool the court.

The petitioner in the case is Congress leader Jaya Thakur. She expressed happiness with the Supreme Court’s decision, stating that the court had taken its decision considering the seriousness of the issue.

Here’s what BJP leader Prithiviraj Harichandan said on Supreme Court directing SBI to disclose details of electoral bonds by close of business hours on March 12. “It should be thoroughly examined whether electoral bonds have reduced political corruption or it has increased, it should be re-examined by the court itself and it is my personal request.”
