If you’re an Android smartphone user, be cautious. A small mistake could seriously jeopardize your privacy. The Indian government’s cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, has issued an alert regarding certain security vulnerabilities in Android phones. This alert covers devices running Android 14, Android 15, Android 16, Android 16 QPR2, and Android 17. The agency has advised users and organizations to update their phones as soon as possible.

CERT-In has issued Security Note CIVN-2026-0536 in this regard. According to the agency, vulnerabilities have been found in some critical systems of the phone, which could be exploited by cybercriminals to target the device. Therefore, phone users should not take this warning lightly.

According to a CERT-In report, several security flaws have been discovered in key parts of Android, such as its framework and system. Hackers can exploit these flaws to execute malicious code on the phone at will. Interestingly, in some cases, this doesn’t even require the user to click on a suspicious link or download an app.

If a cybercriminal succeeds in exploiting these flaws, they can expand their access to the phone. This could give them access to features and information that are typically not permitted to outsiders. This could directly impact the user’s personal information. Hackers could steal important data stored on the phone, access secure information, or even crash the device.

The only relief in this regard is that Google has released updates to fix these security flaws. On November 2nd, the company also released its November 2026 Android Security Bulletin, which details these flaws and the improvements made to prevent them. Google has released security patches for November 1 and November 5, 2026, to fix these issues. Simply having the latest version of Android isn’t enough. It’s also important to check which security patch is installed on your device.

Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and other companies release updates based on their phones. Therefore, some users may have to wait a few days or weeks for this update.

If you want to know if your phone has received a new security update, you can check it by going to Settings.

First, open your phone’s Settings.

Now go to the System or Software Update option.

Tap Check for Updates here.

If a new update appears, download and install it.

If your phone hasn’t received the November security update yet, don’t make the mistake of downloading it from an unknown website. For now, avoid clicking on suspicious links and installing unknown apps. Also, keep Google Play Protect on in your phone. This feature scans the apps present in the phone and helps in identifying harmful apps.
