Amidst internal strife within the Samajwadi Party, Kamal Akhtar, the party’s Chief Whip in the UP Assembly and MLA from the Kanth constituency in Moradabad district, has resigned from his post. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has accepted his resignation. Akhtar’s sudden resignation has become a topic of discussion in political circles. In fact, differences within the party surfaced after the recent PDA Panchayat held in Moradabad.
Ruchi Veera, Samajwadi Party MP from Moradabad, did not attend the event and subsequently expressed displeasure with the functioning of the party organization. According to sources, Ruchi Veera complained to Akhilesh Yadav, alleging that the district organization was acting unilaterally and creating an atmosphere against her. Although Ruchi Veera did not directly mention Kamal Akhtar by name, it was believed within the party that she was referring to him.
It is being said that amid the ever-increasing controversy and questions being raised on the organization, Kamal Akhtar resigned from the post of Chief Whip to reduce the pressure on the district organization and calm the dispute. There is also discussion in political circles that Ruchi Veera is considered a leader close to the Azam Khan camp. In such a situation, the party leadership was taking her displeasure seriously. Kamal Akhtar has long been considered the leader of the anti-Azam Khan faction, due to which political distance remained between the two sides. Sources also say that Kamal Akhtar himself wanted to leave the post of Chief Whip. There is a ‘political trick’ in discussion within the party regarding this post that the leader who holds this post loses the next assembly elections. However, it is believed that the decision of his resignation was expedited after Ruchi Veera’s displeasure and organizational dispute. After Kamal Akhtar’s resignation, it is believed that the factionalism going on within the Samajwadi Party in Moradabad division may reduce to some extent. Earlier, Subhaspa chief Om Prakash Rajbhar had also made Ruchi Veera’s displeasure an issue and claimed that a situation of split could arise in the Samajwadi Party.
