Patna | May 1, 2026:- Today, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal, conducted on-site inspections of important roads and flyovers in Patna city with the aim of streamlining traffic flow and addressing infrastructure deficiencies. During the inspection, he assessed the ride quality, technical defects, and traffic problems in J.P. Ganga Path, Atal Path, Patli Path, and the Raja Bazaar-Ruppur area and issued strict instructions to the concerned officials to complete the repair work within the stipulated timeframe.
The Secretary clearly warned that laxity in maintenance work will not be tolerated.
During the inspection, the Secretary directed immediate action on deficiencies identified in various sections of Atal Path. The level difference in the main carriageway above Nehru Path was directed to be rectified within 15 days. Additionally, an ultimatum was issued to repair the Shivpuri flyover, Digha flyover (approach), and the approach settlement near Digha Rotary within just three days.
He then inspected the J.P. Ganga Path between Digha and Didarganj. Given the problem of sinking of the approach slab near the bridge near Kurji, instructions were given to repair it within 10 days. Undulations were observed on the road surface between Gaighat and Kanganghat. The Secretary directed to ensure its rectification within a month.
During the inspection of the Patli Path, it was found that the rubber of the expansion joints had deteriorated and the wearing coat had worn out. A new DPR was directed to be submitted within three days. The section from AIIMS roundabout to the J.P. Setu approach is now being maintained through STMC.
To resolve the severe traffic jam at the Raja Bazaar flyover exit point, the Secretary conducted a site inspection and issued several important decisions and necessary directives.
Instructions were given to coordinate with the district administration and forest department to identify land for felling four trees located 60 meters from the junction point. The decision regarding the relocation of the temple to the aforementioned location will be made by the competent authority. Immediate action was directed to coordinate and remove the bus stop, gantries, electric poles, and trees located on the right side of the road.
Instructions were given to remove encroachments at the Ashiana turn on the Ashiana-Digha road and initiate the process of land acquisition for road widening in the eastern part.
Secretary Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal also emphasized the need for a permanent solution to the traffic jam problem between R-Block and the Patna Railway Station roundabout. The construction of a new four-lane road at an estimated cost of ₹256 crore has been identified to decongest the station area. Its feasibility report has been prepared, and the implementation of this project will provide significant relief to passengers traveling to and from the station in the future.
The Secretary directed all concerned engineers to ensure completion of the work within the stipulated timeframe, so that the general public does not face any inconvenience in commuting. Emphasizing the need to improve the riding quality of the roads, he said that providing the best riding quality roads is a priority for the department, and no compromise will be tolerated.
