Assembly elections are scheduled for 2027 in Uttar Pradesh, but political parties have begun their preparations. The BJP has even reshuffled ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government. Now, regarding the Congress and Samajwadi Party, talk to any leader from these two parties and they will tell you that the alliance will be formed, but they cannot immediately say when or for how many seats. Congress General Secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, Avinash Pandey, told the media that the top leadership will decide on a Congress-SP alliance in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, our priority is building the organization. Following the SIR revision, we are working to strengthen our organization in every district. We are strengthening our presence in all 403 seats so that we can compete with the BJP.
The Samajwadi Party has conducted a caste survey in each district, and then Akhilesh Yadav visits each district, meets with its leaders and workers, and will then decide who will be given tickets. UP Congress spokesperson and former MLA Akhilesh Pratap Singh told the media that our slogan is to halve the BJP in UP in 2024 and wipe it out from UP in 2027.
We are preparing for all seats. Unless we are strong, how can we help each other? Therefore, it is important for both of us to be strong. The atmosphere in UP is changing; change is about to happen here. One reason for the Congress and SP coming together in Uttar Pradesh is Owaisi’s contesting the UP elections. This poses a risk of dividing Muslim votes, and this will determine how the Congress and SP come together.
Congress leaders say in private that to spoil the game for the Congress and SP in UP, the BJP will backdoor Owaisi, Mayawati, and Chandrashekhar Ravan’s party, leading to a division of Muslim and Dalit votes. As far as seat-sharing between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh is concerned, Akhilesh and Rahul Gandhi will sit together and decide. There will definitely be negotiations over the number of seats, but leaders of both parties hope that the matter will be discussed and a solution will be found when the time comes.
