Bapu Tower and Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Memorial Stupa Receive Prestigious 17th CIDC Vishwakarma Award 2026
Bihar’s infrastructure development and heritage conservation efforts received significant national recognition today. Two ambitious projects constructed by the Building Construction Department—Bapu Tower, Patna, and Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Memorial Stupa (Vaishali)—were honored with the prestigious 17th CIDC Vishwakarma Award 2026. *The Secretary of the Building Construction Department, Mr. Kumar Ravi, received the honor from the Honorable Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, at a grand ceremony held in New Delhi.* Both projects received the Vishwakarma Award in the Best Construction Projects category.
On this occasion, Secretary of the Building Construction Department, Mr. Kumar Ravi, said that this honor is a matter of pride for Bihar. This achievement is a result of the able leadership of the Honorable Chief Minister and the unwavering commitment of the entire department team. Both projects have been implemented by the Building Construction Department under the continuous guidance of the Honorable Chief Minister, as envisioned by him. I congratulate all the engineers, architects, and agencies involved in both projects.*
The Building Construction Department is constantly setting new benchmarks in architecture and building design, establishing a new identity for Bihar before the nation and the world. Previously, the department’s significant constructions, the Samrat Ashok Convention Center, Patna, and the Anjuman Islamia Hall, have received the Vishwakarma Award.
The Bapu Tower, dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in Gardanibagh, Patna, vividly depicts Gandhiji’s legacy through audio-visuals, murals, sculptures, and short films. Mahatma Gandhi’s life journey, principles, and his connection to Bihar are vividly displayed in the museum using modern technology. The Bapu Tower is not only a tourist attraction but also a center of education for youth and students. This museum is taking tourism to new heights.
The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Memorial Stupa, built on a 72-acre plot in Vaishali for the preservation of the relics of Lord Buddha and for Buddhists to visit, is a remarkable achievement of the Department. This magnificent stupa, which preserves and promotes Vaishali’s ancient Buddhist heritage, has become a new hub for Buddhist pilgrims from India and abroad. The stupa is constructed from sandstone from Vanshi Paharpur in Rajasthan. Several modern technologies have been used to make the Memorial Stupa earthquake-resistant, ensuring its earthquake resistance. The stupa’s basic structure will remain intact for thousands of years. It also includes a museum block, library, visitor center, amphitheater, and other modern facilities. Inaugurated in July 2025, this project is promoting tourism development and Buddhist culture.
