Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, raised the issue of violence against Dalits. He alleged that Dalits are still being insulted everywhere. During a press conference on Saturday, the Congress leader raised the issue of desecration after Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Haldwani. He said that he is the national president of our party. He stated that action must be taken against the way this issue was handled. He demanded action from the Uttarakhand government in this matter. Rahul Gandhi also demanded action from PM Modi.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, said that there is a battle going on between two ideologies in the country. On one side is the Constitution of India – the Constitution of BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel. On the other side is the ideology of the BJP and RSS. The current political situation in India is centered around these two ideologies.
Rahul Gandhi said that for thousands of years, Dalits have been subjected to oppression and violence in this country. The Constitution has made it illegal, yet today, Dalit children are made to clean toilets and sweep floors in schools. Imagine the impact this has on the minds of future generations. Children see some of their peers sweeping, while those sweeping see those who don’t have to. This is the reality of India.
Rahul Gandhi further said that even today, Dalits are not allowed to drink water from the village well. They have to dig their own wells because they are barred from using the common village well. At tea shops, you see two types of cups: one is a reusable glass cup that can be washed, and the other is a paper or plastic cup that is thrown away after use. Plastic or paper cups are for Dalits, while glass cups are for others. This is the reality of India. This is the reality of Uttar Pradesh, this is the reality of North India, and you can see it in cities and villages.
The Congress leader said that on a happy day, if Dalit grooms ride horses during wedding processions, they are attacked and stones are thrown. He targeted the central BJP government and the RSS for this. Rahul Gandhi, after Kharge’s event, raised the issue of the purification of the stage, saying, “This is a crime. We demand action in this matter.” Rahul Gandhi demanded that an FIR be filed against those who carried out the purification under the SC/ST Act.
Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi said that in Rajasthan, our CLP leader goes to a temple, and BJP leaders perform the “purification” ritual. Congress President Kharge, who has dedicated his entire life to the country and the Constitution, goes to deliver a speech at the Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani, and the purification ritual is performed there too. Who does this? These are people from the BJP and RSS. Only members of the BJP and RSS commit such acts. This is a crime, a criminal act, under the Indian Constitution.
