On the fateful night of March 1, the couple, touring India on a two-wheeler, was resting in a makeshift tent at Kurmahat Village in Dumka. Their peaceful journey took a devastating turn when a group of seven individuals allegedly assaulted and raped the woman Fernanda at Jharkhand. The perpetrators looted ₹10,000 from the victims during the heinous crime.
The Dumka police, on a routine patrol, discovered the distressed couple in the early hours of March 2. Initially assuming a case of assault, the severity of the situation unfolded at the hospital. Medical examination confirmed the brutal gang rape. Dumka Superintendent of Police, Pitambar Singh Kherwar, took immediate action, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to bring the culprits to justice.
