The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially registered an FIR and started investigation into the suspicious death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. This action has been taken after the Bombay High Court’s directive of 2 September 2026. The CBI registered an FIR in the case on 13 September. In its order, the High Court had directed the CBI to register an FIR on the basis of the complaint of Disha’s father Satish Salian and investigate the case. Also, the court had made it clear that no person will be considered an accused until sufficient material comes to light during the investigation.
CBI has taken this action on the basis of the statement of Disha’s father Satish Ishwar Salian. The statement of Satish Salian was recorded on 11 September 2026. At present no person has been named as an accused in the FIR. The agency has registered a case against unknown accused and suspects. Although media reports claim that the names of some famous people have been mentioned in the FIR, it would not be appropriate to hold any person guilty at this stage of the investigation.
The number of the FIR registered by the CBI has been stated as RC0502026S0006. It includes sections 120-B of the Indian Penal Code for criminal conspiracy, section 376-D for gang rape, section 302 for murder, section 201 for destroying evidence or giving false information and sections 217 and 218 for disobedience of law on the part of public servants and preparing false records. On the basis of these sections, CBI will now investigate what were the actual circumstances behind Disha Salian’s death and whether crimes like murder, gang rape, conspiracy or tampering of evidence were committed in the case.
Disha’s father Satish Salian has claimed in his statement that his daughter’s death on the intervening night of 8-9 June 2020 was not suicide, but there was a deep conspiracy behind it. He alleges that Disha had some sensitive information, which she and Sushant Singh Rajput were going to make public.
Satish Salian has also raised questions on the initial investigation of Mumbai Police. He alleges that he was not given the post-mortem report for a long time and was made to sign many papers without giving complete information. He has also alleged alleged alterations in medical reports and forensic samples i.e. swabs, disappearance of CCTV footage and location data.
Earlier, Mumbai Police had registered the case as an accidental death report and the investigation considered it a suicide. Later, the special investigation team constituted by the state government also said that no foul play was found in the death. Now on the instructions of the High Court, the CBI is investigating the case afresh.
Along with starting the investigation, CBI has sought all the original documents related to Disha Salian’s death from Malwani Police Station and Mumbai Police. These include accidental death report (ADR No. 85/2020), post mortem report, case diary and other digital evidence. The CBI will now re-examine these documents and the available evidence. On the basis of the incident site, technical evidence and statements of the people concerned, the agency will try to find out whether any criminal conspiracy or other crime was actually committed in the case of Disha’s death.
It has come to light that a copy of the FIR registered by the CBI will be presented in a sealed cover before the Bombay High Court on Tuesday. Further investigation of the case will be as per the instructions of the High Court. The responsibility of the investigation has been handed over to CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Puran Kumar.
